This 30-inch retractable downdraft vent rises 14 inches to help filter steam from tall stockpots, and remains flush with the cooking surface when not in use. The 600 CFM Pro Motor has the power to provide effective venting for most cooktops. The vent system is reversible to help fit in the cabinet space under the vent.

Features:

  • Reversible Motor Box - Lets you create versatile installation options by allowing the motor box to be installed on either side of the downdraft to free up the space beneath the cooking surface.
  • 4-Speed Slide Control - Makes it easy to select and adjust fan speed depending on your ventilation requirements.
  • Auto On Function - Helps ensure effective ventilation performance by automatically starting the vent at the last used speed when it extends above the cooking surface.
  • Dishwasher Safe Premium Mesh Filter - Help keep the kitchen environment fresh and also provide proper filtration of grease and odors to help reduce contact with ceilings and countertops.
  • Optional Interchangeable Trim Covers - Change the look of the vent to coordinate with existing cabinetry, countertops, and appliances.

Extended warranties are usually very inexpensive and can save you thousands in the future. Some can even cover extra costs that result, such as cost of food that spoils when your fridge dies. It's simple and inexpensive to purchase extended warranties and one of the smartest ways to protect your investment.

Appliances can be large, heavy, and expensive and you probably don't have the special tools or expertise needed to fix them in a crisis. If you can spare a few thousand dollars without batting an eyelash for new appliances should they break tomorrow, don't buy a warranty. Great performance

Submitted by Bronco - 9/18/2017

I've used this vent for about four weeks. I installed it myself to ensure it was done correctly. This downdraft vent will move a LOT of air - far more than my old Jenn-Air downdraft. I like that the fan speed is highly adjustable from low to high. The chimney can be retracted with the fan on, and it will automatically turn the fan off. When elevated again, it returns to the previously set fan speed. Nice. When on high or med-high, the airflow creates fairly loud whir noise, but I don't think you can move that much air through a confined area without hearing it. I like the capability to exhaust a kitchen full of smoke or odor if needed, but low or med-low works fine for me and is much quieter. The height of the chimney means that it doesn't distort the flames and heat from the burners like my old Jenn-Air downdraft did. The metal filters disconnect easily for cleaning in the dishwasher.

Am very happy with this downdraft. Unit was a little hard to install due to "pop-rivets" sticking out on sides. When installing in granite, you need to allow a little extra for these rivets.

Bad product, with worse customer service

Submitted by Ravi - 11/15/2016

The product never worked since, installation. After two visits the authorized repair company came back to me and said the critical part required to fix the problem is back ordered, without an ETA. Kitchen Aid offered only to expedite the part request. I have since provided this information, and can do nothing but wait until it is fixed. KitchenAid says that I am eligible only repair and not replacement, after initial 30 days after purchase. The unit was installed 1 month after the purchase to synchronize with the counter installation. It failed on the day of the installation, and it has been 2 months since then. For something which has not worked from day 1, and the customer is waiting for 2+ months, I am not sure this is an acceptable response. This is not an acceptable level of customer service. I had to wait for 3 times for more than 30 minutes to reach an agent.

Downdraft fan

Submitted by Philliam - 10/31/2016

We bought this fan over a year ago, but are just now installing it. (Kitchen remodels can take a long, LONG time) It's working beautifully, but as I said, we just installed it. I'll get back if it screws up - but I'm not expecting it to, as all of our other Kitchenaid products have worked VERY nicely. I have to add that some of the features you ask about below I really can't address at this time. But one thing I do know: it's SO much quieter than our friends' fan. I LOVE that!

A lot of noise but very little venting

Submitted by Frustrated consumer - 6/25/2016

I bought this downdraft system to avoid installing an overhead hood in my remodeled kitchen. I wanted to maintain the clear sight line from the family room to the kitchen. It is supposed to work with the KitchenAid 30" 4 burner commercial style gas range top that I also installed. The retractable feature works well but the venting is terrible. The fan makes a lot of noise giving the impression that it's sucking large amounts of air. Unfortunately, it won't even pull the steam coming from a pot of boiling water! What a disappointment. KitchenAid, Do you have any suggestions??

Works OK but not so stylish

Submitted by Malgem - 6/18/2016

We have our stove in an island so we had to get a downdraft. This one is pretty and it works great, but I thinks it goes way too high when you turn it on, what makes it look a little weird, because usually I have people seating on the other side of the island, and when I cook this thing goes really high so I can hardly see my guests on the other side. I works great and thatīs what matters, but I wish it wasnīt that high. Also, I though the sound level was going to be better since it is a new appliance with better technology, I guessed, but the noise is just as bad as the old one we had.

Not up to expectations

Submitted by Very unhappy - 4/12/2016

We have all kitchen aid appliances in our kitchen. We were very surprised at the quality of the downdraft as it did not come with a power cord (you had to purchase and wire it in yourself) and several parts were not in alignment. One of the above counter stainless steel end caps was cut crooked so it overlaps on the counter side and underlaps on the cooktop side This is Kitchen Aid pricing at discount store quality

A bust

Submitted by Tkc - 9/16/2015

In 2014 I choose a kitchen aid Pop up bc it was the cheaper choice to the Miele. since then I think there are more options. After six months the pop up failed and was dropping down when I tried to clean it. It was broken and after a series of reconditioning I put my foot down and demanded a new replacement. I had to fight for this for months and finally got a new one. it is fine now. The kitchen aid customer service has gotten so bad in the last few years that I decided to never buy one again

vent won't operate correctly

Submitted by kymm Lange - 7/30/2015

we had the 36" vent installed a little over a year ago(5/22/14) and have not used it very often. initially it would go up with just a push of the button then this spring (it wouldn't go up unless i held the button but once i let go it would retract. since it was under warranty i had a service call and the repairman worked with it and it was working fine - however it would go up initially then retract and then go up again and stay up. he informed me that was how it was suppose to operate. have used it maybe a handful of times since then and now it won't stay up at all. very frustrating - it was expensive and haven't used mush. not looking forward to a service bill especially since i called about this problem while it was under warranty! i have always looked kitchen aid - all my appliances are kitchen aid but this one is a dud!!!

I purchased an entire kitchen with kitchen aide appliances. The downdraft looks great but I've had problems from the get go...wouldn't go up/down correctly as per other reviews and now goes up but does not turn on. I am getting ready to replace it after multiple service calls, but now that I'm reading these reviews it sounds like I'm not the only one. Have any of you followed up with the customer service rep?

Will not properly recess after use

Submitted by Brad - 7/4/2015

We bought this unit a couple years ago, along with the KitchenAide cooktop, refrigerator, oven, warming drawer & microwave. The motor that pulls the vent fan back down does not work properly to recess the unit back to the non-use position. Ours sticks about 4" above the cooktop & locks up. Can't get it to move at all. Also just scheduled technician thru KitchenAide to have the "3rd" ice maker installed in the fridge. KitchenAide not what they used to be.

Does not work properly!

Submitted by Sunnyv - 1/29/2015

At this point we are waiting for the 3 visit from our installer because this vent is sucking air from the backside. On the last visit the installer said it was defective and would need to be replaced. Also the top stainless piece that rests on the counter top area is absolutely hideous! While I am very happy with all of the other Kitchen Aid appliances we purchased at the same time as this downdraft, oven-micro combo and dishwasher, this was a bad choice. We cannot have a exhaust vent above our cook top and a downdraft is the only solution. I wish I had chosen another brand.

KitchenAid Down draft

Submitted by Annie B - 10/30/2014

This is the second, KitchenAid, down draft I bought, as the other one blew a motor after 7 years. I hope this one lasts longer. The motor does not suck up the air from the farthest burner. I had no choice but to buy the same one again. After all these years, you would think they would have improved the suction of the down draft! They did NOT improve it at all, in fact I liked the old one better. Don't you trail test them at all???

Caution

Submitted by ChefErica - 10/10/2014

I love kitchenaid... but... I am so disappointed in this product. It was installed and didn't work correctly. I had it repaired through an authorized service provider and, after 5 visits, they had basically rebuilt the unit. Now, approximately 1 year later, the product is not working again and, of course, is 1 month past the 1 year warranty. I have used the unit minimally and only with great care, so it shouldn't have any issues. Basically, the unit does not go up and down properly. It is currently stuck in the down position. I have contacted the company so hopefully they will remedy the situation. I am hopeful that I just received a 'bad apple' and this is an isolated incident. Nonetheless, consider purchasing the extended warranty on the product.

Pop up downdraft vent

Submitted by DToney - 5/17/2014

Brought this product 2 months ago. Used it twice and was very pleased. Love that it comes up high and is able it vent the steam from the front burners. The third time I used the vent it would not retract all the way down. Called the repair service department for the store I purchased it from. It took 3 weeks for the part to come in then while the part was being put in another part broke. Would I recommend this product? At this time no!

Great streamline look and countertop saver

Submitted by Moises - 5/14/2014

I bought this appliance as part of other 5 for kitchen remodeling. Using a retractable downdraft gave us bigger burners for same 30" cooktop. The drawback we found is that it was hard to retrofit using the existing vent location under the counter. The contractor had to build a adapter for it which basically took all the cabinet space under the cooktop. Perhaps, a more modular adapter would has help here.In addition, we had some problems with the on-off switch, which had to be replaced.

Not Sure Yet...

Submitted by DiaDia - 12/21/2013

I've only used it a few times and did manage to knock over and crash a ceramic utensil holder when I lowered the vent, but I guess that's my problem. I did use it with a grill pan on the burner doing some small steaks with the fan on high and the smoke was definitely wafting to the ceiling, not being totally sucked in by the vent. But it has definitely solved a design problem since we have a very high cathedral ceiling in our kitchen which made an overhead vent impossible. But I must say, it looks so cool and makes me feel very Jetsons space age!

Retraction feature is innovative but does not always work pr

Submitted by JB12345 - 10/30/2013

Love the retraction feature but the system often does not function properly. The unit will not come up properly with a simple push of the button. It requires holding the button and waiting for the system to engage then releasing the button. Proper timing and fiddling with it is frustrating because the system will disengage and retract instead of coming on. (Possibly an installation error!?) Also, downdraft system does not draw as much as I had hoped although it is much better than our old downdraft system (Jenn-Aire).
